About Can Man

can man

I started carving Can Man in 1994. While looking at a can, I tried to figure out what I could sculpt out of it. I had seen airplanes sculpted from the tops and bottoms of soda cans. The soda logos gave the airplanes a nice colorful touch. But I wanted to think outside of the box, or in this case, outside of the can. I played around with many different ideas of what to sculpt with the can. My first attempt was an awkward stick figure. In fact, people who saw it had to be told what they were looking at. I realized I could cut a stick figure from one side and bring it to the top, still attached to the can. Then I molded the figure like a kid's bendy figure toy. Eureka! Can Man was born.

Thanks for dropping by.
